Multicultural Mentorship
My Freshmen year at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga I was a mentee in the Multicultural Mentorship and my sophomore year I was a mentor. It was an incredible opportunity that helped introduce me to many organizations that I love at UTC. Freshman year my mentor was Alese Taylor, she was involved with everything. She introduced me to groups like BSA, Circle K, and Intervarsity. Freshmen year I did not have a lot of confidence and had very little leadership skills. While in the mentorship I was connected with several departments that specialized in student success like career services. We did team building and bonding workshops. Through the mentorship program, I was able to build my confidence and gain leadership skills that help me become a mentor the next year. Continuing into my sophomore year, I learned more about responsibility and accountability. Up until that point, I was only accountable for myself and no one else. Once giving mentees I was responsible for helping them integrate into UTC and find their place. Overall without the Multicultural mentorship, I truly feel as if I would have never become the confident strong leader that I am today.
